I work in law enforcement and a copy that you sent him does not have the seal or anything on it . It's a copy which no DMV would take. He would have to apply for a new tile and it would never happen. Also he would have to sign your name on the title I would not worry about it.
When I bought my car i made the guy send me a copy of the title and a copy of his drive's license for me to buy the car from him. DMV will only take orginal titles which have both signatures on them and then they will issue a new title to the person who bought it. If he signed your name to a copy of the title and tried to pass it off as a orginal one he could face criminal charges. Keep all the email conversations that you have had with him in a file and if anything comes about you have documention to back your side up. But like I said don't stress it.
