But, first, make certain it is the alternator.

If you have a DMM, it's a simple check:

Battery: Remove at least 1 terminal and check for voltage across the terminals - s/b 13.0-13.2 Volts. A 12 volt battery is NEVER 12 volts if healthy. Each of the cells, wired in series, produces approx. 2.2 volts (X 6=13.2 volts)

Alternator: Reconnect terminals, start the car, turn on lights, Climate Control and stereo and check voltage across terminals (cables attached) - s/b 13.5-14.5 volts. This is your alternator output voltage.

If less than these values in either test, replace the indicated component.
