Concern about durability didn't stop me. I had my originals seats redone with Alcantara inserts - and I also did other trim pieces. Alcantara is a synthetic - not real leather - and from what I can gather, it wears about as well as the original upholstery. Just be aware that it has a suede-like nap, so from certain angles it can sometimes look like you have a stain, but wiping your hand over it makes it disappear.
