Boxster Production to Switch to Zuffenhausen & LSD soon available with Manual Tranny

According to German carmag AMS Boxster production will move from Finland to Zuffenhausen from March 09:

Using a google translator, it is unclear whether all Boxster production will shift to Germany starting March 2009. The article seems to imply that Boxster sales have dropped off much lower than expected. Given that the Cayman has more horsepower and a Club Sport model is being introduced later in the year, Porsche seems to be concentrating its sales on the Cayman lineup. Of course journalists are already making comparisons between the 987.2 Cayman and the 997.2 Carrera, concluding that the Cayman is the better bargain on the better platform. What was clear from the production article is that Cayman production will continue at Valmet through 2011, then both Cayman and Boxster production will switch to Austria. Looks like there is a window to buy an honest to goodness German Boxster made in an honest to goodness Porsche factory.

Also for those interested in a Limited Slip Differential, LSD will be available with PDK on the introduction of the 987.2; however LSD will also be available on manual transmission 987.2’s starting May 2009. Those who tried the Porsche Configurator will notice that LSD can only be configured with PDK, but apparently that will change soon.

In my case, there is no shortage of tempting products; unfortunately, there is a shortage of funds...
