You are most likely referring to the cars that have the alloy nuts (911, 944, etc). First, they are OK if properly torqued. If you are running a car with sticky tires, tech usually likes to see that the lug nut is properly engaged; hence, steel open end nuts. Your Boxster has bolts that were engineered to thread into the hub a certain distance. As long as they are properly torqued, you will not have a problem.
