Its not a feature, it simply aids the navigation as when hooked up, it enables the headunit to compensate for when the car reverses. Its a very simple install and only takes c.20 mins taking out the seat, finding the correct wire, connecting a simple piece of 2mm wire and running that under the carpet up to behind the headunit.
I've done it but some people say it isn't necessary.
