Make sure the battery is fully charged.

Some people like to put the car in high gear and push it a foot or 2 to move the pistons just in case the rings have corroded to the bores. I never have since 1974 and I have never broken any rings.

Then just start it and let it idle for a few minutes before putting any load on it.
