Bob, I think this was part of an option package Porsche offered on the 2008. I'd have to check the Buyer Guide to confirm.
I am sure it can be done (flexible paint). They paint the bumpers right.
You could even remove them (if you can find a way) and send them to Eric at Bumperplugs and have him paint them. Won't be the cheapest option but the work quality will be excellent.
