Yes there are problems with engine rms issues, but realistically if you find a 97 now and its still running strong you should be fine. Any early models that were prone to failure probably should have failed by now. Look for one thats been used but well loved. Ignore the garage queens and ones without well documented service records.

Boxsters are actually pretty reliable cars and my 97 runs and drives great. I have a few updates such as the OEM litronics and clear marker/rear lights. Most people who don't know anything about porsches/boxsters still think my car is only a few years old.
