The early 2.5L cars actually were faster from 0-60 than the 2.7L cars. Reason being the gearing is shorter in the earlier models to help it with acceleration sprints. With the 2.7L introduction, they increased the gearing in the tranny slightly, and thus, a slower 0=60, but better overall midrange feel and higher top end
