Chuckwalla Valley Raceway (CVR)
3rd session of the day out at CVR.
Was pretty hot @ 95F but coolant temps never exceeded 219F. First time seeing my own car like this, but I think the setup looks good. Here's the full 24 minute video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4ujKpdZBjI Here are a couple of professional photos that were taken that day! Turn 12 http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1490220523.jpg Turn 13 - 12 degree banked turn! http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1490220543.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1490220658.jpg |
Cool photos and laps, looks like it is a mostly 3rd gear track with that last 180 before start/finish going to 2nd?
Pretty cool how you got the throttle display, I have messed with obdii Bluetooth readers but could never get a decent refresh rate, my phone was also gathering video though slowing things down. Lots of really nice sweepers, a great opportunity to practice and learn car control and throttle steering, the first time I did it was at an autocross at the Gainesville raceway test track. I was going through a big increasing radius sweeper and realized if I added throttle I would drift out, and if I reduced throttle I came back. I still have lots to learn but that was a big step in my learning process. How did your tire wear go this time? Did you fund some hit pressures that worked for you? |

On the main straightaway, 4th is almost necessary if you don't want to coast... was hitting 95 mph or so. Took me 2 sessions to get somewhat comfortable with the line, then on the 4th, I really got into it with a 2min 17sec best lap. Quote:

Chuckie is a great fun safe track
You don't need 2nd anywhere, 3rd all around and hit 4th on the front and back straights definitely not 2nd in turn 9, you will have to upshift in turn 10 2:17 is very respectful for a 1 time out in a 986 What tires are you running? I run 30/30 hot on RE-71's |

I'm running Hankook R-S3s. They seem to like 37-38 all around hot. I'm thinking it will be very HOT there in the summer, so my next outing there will most likely be October or November. I'm sure I could shave some time off with more seat time on that track... |
Looks like you had fun out there! I was not able to make Chuckie in March due to family obligations. It is a great learning track with lots of sweepers and fairly short straights. Interestingly, this track vexes me and among tight competitors, they will usually get me here while I get them at Buttonwillow, Streets, and WSIR. I have no answers to why this is.
My 2.5L car on RS-3s turned the fastest laps with 35 psi hot all around. Give that a try next time and see what you think. |
