yeah that always a problem. Black is the only color that has a very close light reflection. Maybe if you added a carbon fiber hood :)

I dunno if I buy that story from the bodyshop. Afterall, it comes from the factory matched, right? If they're using the correct color code and it isn't matching, they need to re-mix the colors to something else. A good shop should be able to get a very close match at worse. You might want to get a second opinion.

well my Silver nose was painted at the factory and the paint isn't really at Close Match. well not compared to my previous black car. I think Mettalics in general are very difficult and once the flakes take to a different surface material light reflects very differently because of how the paint sits on the metal/plastic. I've noticed this even with flat colors like yellow.
