Greta: Not Really a Build so Much as it is a Maintenance Record Build Thread w/BS.
Hallo alle.
This is the first quick, first European, and first mid engine vehicle I've ever owned, and I absolutely could not be happier with it. It's funny to think I wasn't old enough to drive when this car came off the assembly line. __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ About the car: 1999 Boxster 2.5 5-spd, VIN WP0CA2980XU620297. I bought Greta with 166k miles.
The previous owner, djaemac, did all of the work, I just took the vinyl wrap off. These are his pics: http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d4...psab7ibws0.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d4...pscw3j6wil.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d4...ps0qvkjrkf.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d4...psgfq3b3g6.jpg SPec-D Tuning steering wheel. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d4...psk2w0pcmc.jpg |

As far as I can see, the only body mod is a Boxster Spyder rear diffuser and European headlights and tail lights.

Oh yeah, if you have any input, I have an odd clicking noise in the left rear: http://986forum.com/forums/performance-technical-chat/63253-rotational-clicking-only-when-gear.html

Noticed I have two types of lug bolt on here.
This kind, is a 19mm. https://www.tacomaworld.com/media/li...l?d=1475115427 And this kind with 6 slots, which I have no key for. https://www.tacomaworld.com/media/li...l?d=1475115431 |
They are security bolts. Check the key's not in the tool set? Or go back to the PO and ask, he obviously had it at some point to get them off for the suspension upgrade.
If all else fails, some suggestions on removing them here : http://986forum.com/forums/general-discussions/32465-these-oe-porsche-locking-nuts.html |

Totally forgot to check the tool roll in the spare. Right? lol Still trying to learn about this thing while working 12 hour days and between the rainfall at night. |
Previous owner has the key, all is well. lol

Ditched the storage box and clam shell sound deadener.

Replaced a well used K&N air filter with a shiny new BMC.
K&N is such junk, I don't know why people used them. Look at how much more media the BMC has! http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d4...psktkmz0bt.jpg And my helper. My dog, Sandy. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d4...ps28tnpj4x.jpg |
Finally able to get some time & space.
Pulled the wheel off, and a damn weight fell out of somewhere... http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d4...pslflju2ut.jpg Guess I'll go get it balanced before I pull the axles. Got ahead of myself and ordered a pair of gently used axles from that good eBay store. Car has 166k, maybe I should just go ahead and replace them while it's in the air? http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d4...psf46rpbxi.jpg |
New BFG g-Sport Comp 2 summer tires on and driver side rear axle replaced.
Kept the same size tires 245/40-18 F and 265/35-18 R. Also found that I had a bent rear wheel, had that repaired. Car is almost as good as new. Going to get an alignment done soon, hopefully. Swapped out the entire axle, well a shop did. All European in Las Vegas, small shop, really good staff too. No more clicking. https://www.tacomaworld.com/media/li...l?d=1480526908 https://www.tacomaworld.com/media/li...l?d=1480526905 |

Clear third brake light because the stock one had a couple LEDs out. Had to reverse polarity for it to work. Couldn't get the wires out of the factory plug, so I dyked them and crimped on spade connectors. https://www.tacomaworld.com/media/li...pg.545776/full https://www.tacomaworld.com/media/li...pg.545779/full |
Do you like your Ksports?

Previous owner actually has them pretty dialed in. Not sure how many miles are on them or when they'll need rebuilding. But yes, so far, excellent. |
New(er) 3 stalk unit, courtesy of Woody.
Replaced my stalk unit with a gently used unit. On mine, the blinkers would not stay on unless you held the talk down the entire time you wanted it on. I have an aftermarket steering wheel on, so getting the factory steering wheel off is up to you. lol Remove wheel. Remove clam shell trim pieces. Remove 24mm steering wheel nut. Yank that wheel mount off with your man strenfth. https://www.tacomaworld.com/attachme...8-jpg.1293723/ Loosen this brass bolt on the bottom, gently wiggle the unit off. https://www.tacomaworld.com/attachme...q-jpg.1293720/ Gently wiggle off these connectors, DO NOT bend your pins. There is also a connector on the bottom left side, you will need a really small flathead screwdriver to depress the clip and slide apart. https://www.tacomaworld.com/attachme...0-jpg.1293722/ Connect the wires to the new unit, level your new unit, and tighten (DO NOT overtighten) the brass screw. https://www.tacomaworld.com/attachme...3-jpg.1293719/ Test all of the functions. https://www.tacomaworld.com/attachme...f-jpg.1293717/ https://www.tacomaworld.com/attachme...h-jpg.1293713/ https://www.tacomaworld.com/attachme...g-jpg.1293725/ Reinstall the clam shell trim pieces, wheel mount, and wheel. Enjoy. |
You may have noticed some dyked wires.
I have no clue what they went to. If you know what they are, please tell me. Going to look at a bunch of drawings to figure it out. I absolutely fvkcing hate it when people dyke wires. Just disconnect it. Are you really in that much of a fvkcing hurry? https://www.tacomaworld.com/media/li...l?d=1481921828 |
I believe those are all wires for the clock spring (horn contact and airbag).

Balls. I was going to reconnect the factory wheel to see if I liked it better, and change the horns out to the Hellas that I like. |
