Yeah, it is rubbery. For some reason I expected it to be smooth following the clearcoat.

Opinions on brake caliper and wheel color

Okayy, back to brake caliper color. I'm back to the big three. Red, silver, and green.

I know red is entering the 'S territory', but as I customize my car more and more, I'm starting to care less and less. Since I'm not trying to pose as an S I could care less what S owners might think when they see it. I've been considering getting a custom rear chrome logo the reads 986 B just to rep the base edition. Most importantly, with red brake calipers, I'll be able to add some red interior accents and have some consistency throughout the car.

The silver is looks nice, but with my interior being gray, I don't like the entirely monochromatic feel of the car.

Lastly, acid green... I will always love this color, but it's getting really hard to find ways to match the color with similarly colored interior accents...

These first world problems are soo hard to deal with!! :P

I vote for red.

heliguy 12-22-2013 06:25 PM

I vote for the red, my GF votes for the silver. I also vote for your center caps to be black.

Nine8Six 12-23-2013 04:51 PM

Sorry to go against everyone else's choice but I think the green looks pretty cool. Red are also very nice but isn't the color that everybody goes for these days?? Nothing wrong with a unique style and that acid green does just this pretty damn well imo

Nine8Six 12-23-2013 04:55 PM

Those are the Porsche center caps you should go for. Recommend anodized BLACK but we got them in all other colors (less Acid green of course!). $150 for the kit

Gold?! +32rwhp for sure mate

BruceH 12-23-2013 07:17 PM

With the black wheels, I think the green looks best. Second choice would be silver.

Nine8Six 12-23-2013 07:18 PM

YES, I knew it! Somebody else vote green? juss need one more

bmarti13 12-23-2013 08:37 PM

I vote for red calipers. I just plasti dipped this weekend as well. Love the black, glossy wheels!

Nine8Six 12-24-2013 01:01 AM

Hang on a min... lets go back to op. Let's say you have access to the paint code below in high temp and already lucky enough to own a silver Porsche car. Are you really in need of others' opinions? Seriously?

^ Hello?

PS: Your acid green is not hard to make. 4 parts of yellow and 1 part of blue (base colors). Use Online Color Mixing Palette for Painters for a base (starting point, adjust concentration between dry paint tests)

You should ask shehadehd how he is planning to paint his interior.

I decided to use some spare time and acid green vinyl to give the car some preliminary runs.

Don't mind the half-a$$ed vinyl wrap

I vote acid green. It's unique

heliguy 12-24-2013 03:12 PM

The acid green in the interior looks kinda random. I like the mirror though and the calipers would look good green.

I kinda see your point about it being random..... So I added more green

Now you need green stitching!

It was hairspray, but I found a better way to do it that doesn't need the color locking power of hairspray

Haha, that would be some good ol' fashioned top-stitching

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/01/20/5yzyba2y.jpg

Took me about 4 hours (off and on) to do the seats and doors. You basically interweave the thread through the already placed stitching. Cost me $5 (price of the thread) and one Saturday afternoon.

The results are stunning and you can cut the thread out when you want to sell the car. It just requires a patient hand. Btw, auto upholstery shops will do this for you, but not sure what the cost is.

BruceH 01-19-2014 08:12 AM

A very patient hand! Nice work!

heliguy 01-20-2014 05:18 AM

That looks so much better than mine. What else are you going to stitch?

Your interior Is amazing! That is exactly the interior I imagined adding the acid green stitching too. You even have a glove box O.o !

I've added the stitching to the shift boot, hand brake, airbag and door handle, all the stitching on the seats (beside the cross stitching you sit on). The two places left are the steering wheel and the leather bridge.

particlewave 01-20-2014 10:53 AM

Great minds, my friend ;)
You know how I feel about the green, but the stitching idea...did you find that online somewhere?
I have been working on doing some of mine in white, no kidding. I thought I came up with the idea :o

Great to see a fellow diy mod junkie ;)
Also working on a custom shift boot right now. I made a white one last year, but it was too much on the black interior. This new one will have white leather on the top of the knob that turns into a stripe as it goes down the boot (imagine the stock knob with the silver trim piece in white and continuing down the boot). The top of the knob will have an appropriate sized metal crest instead of the normal shift map...maybe...if it looks good ;)

Thanks for the compliment. I have everything color stitched also, except the steering wheel and the part of the seat you sit on. I wish I had thought of your weaving method. I got a silver paint pen and painted each stitch.

Originally I used a green paint pen but couldn't get the thread to give off enough color so I decided to bite the bullet and start stitching.

986_c6 02-15-2014 01:36 AM

Great diy'ers at work here! That green stitching looks pretty good.

M4SGK1986 03-03-2015 12:48 PM

I also quite fancy changing the caliper colour to the Acid Green as seen on the Hybrids. Not too sure if its a bit over the top, so as above i have taken to photoshop to see if i like it. Too much or not?

I like it, but I'm biased ;)

I think the small decal would tie in nicely without being over the top, but I think it would look better behind the door (under the vent, near the rocker panel).

Thanks Particlewave! The green against the black wheels looks well cool. I couldn't make up my mind with the decal, i was trying to tie in the green, which i think can work nicely in the right place.

My vote would be the second picture with the decal down low. I like my red calipers but what do I know?
