986 takes the top spot at Global Time Attack Round #2
The 986 crowd was represented well at the recent Global Time Attack event held at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway in CA. Rounds #2 and #3 of the four round Pro-Am series took place on back to back days in opposing directions on the desert road course. As a first time entrant, the Porsche caught a bit of attention during registration and tech inspections. The real interest sparked after the first practice session when the car started to scream down the front straight and posted lap times over five seconds quicker than the entire field.
The temps over the weekend rose to a ridiculous 117 degrees outside the car, 175 degree track temp, and who knows how hot inside the car. The heat was really the theme of the weekend, along with that new Porsche. It just kept running lap after lap and improving throughout the sessions. Most of the competition would run two laps stints before they would suffer overheating issues and retire for more ice. There is quite entertaining article by Wed at MotoIQ.com about everyones battle with the heat. Jay at Revvolution.com also wrote up a quick review of the weekend, including his visit by a rattlesnake in the infield interrupting his photos.
