Good job, but this is WAY OVERKILL. The Ragg Topp (I assume you'll be using....or 303 for that matter) wipes off easily enough, plus you can control the spray pattern, and there is very little over spray.

Remember, less is best. Do 3-4 light coats. Let dry about 20-30 minutes between coats. Between coats I re-vacuum the top. While still wet right after spraying, I brush with a high quality, dry, China Brissle brush. Been doing this every other year (I use Ragg Topp) since new in 2006, and my Cocoa top looks brand new.

Yeah, I just brush it on carefully, doing a couple of coats. Never gone to this extreme....

Ok, wow.
I use 303. Just pour the 303 in a cup and use a large paint brush. Use a clean towel to dry any runs. Let dry overnight and you're good.
No need to use the entire Sunday paper.

I used the Porsche brand convertible top sealer I got from my Indy. I think it was $21.00 bucks.
I thought it would be safe to protect the car.
I put the entire can on in one application.
Now the water beads up like it does on a duck's back.
I guess there's many ways to achieve the same results.

Nice job and to each their own. I always appreciate the work someone does, even if it seems overkill to others as it is "their way"...plus I see socks are on sale at Macy's.

I use a disposable foam brush to apply 303. My 14 year old black top looks brand new. I let the 303 dry for 24 hours and then go over the top with a lint roller. Beautiful!

I see there's several differnt types of 303.
Which one specifically do you use?
Sure seems like a lot less work!

Good job Mac. The top will look great afterwords. I used the 303 High tech Fabric Guard with a brush and it made it look like new.

Where are you in North Carolina?

I live just West of Hickory. Went crusing on the Blue Ridge Parkway this past Sunday. Leaves not yet at peak, but it was a nice ride. Lots of other folks up there too.

My apologies for the delayed response, Mistermac99. It's finals week at the university where I teach and I had a lot of grading to do.
I use the High Tech Fabric Guard 303. I'm sure there are other brands that work well, but I'm sold on my technique of using the disposable foam brush.

Most of us I think use 303 Aerospace protectant for Cloth tops.
I bought mine on Amazon. They have pretty good customer service. Mine had arrived having leaked some of the contents out in the box, I emailed them and they immediately shipped out an entirely new kit plus let me keep the remainder of the old one.

Kewl, I stayed the night in Black Mountain and took Route 9 south through Lake Lure and then 64 to 74. Every time I stay there I take this 'long' way home, beats the highway drive.

I'm sold, no more Sunday paper on the Boxster for a cloth top sealer. It's 303 next time for me.

How often should the 303 be applied?

How long should I wait to put it on my top, since I just used the Porsche Top Sealer spray? Maybe after I see it not shedding water?

For what it's worth, here's what I do. During the driving season I was the Box as often as necessary, but not the top. I usually just rinse it off. But, once a year I wash the top using Dawn dish detergent and a soft brush. After that, there's no beading of water whatsoever. After it dries I apply the 303 with the foam brush. Wait 24 hours and then go over it with a lint roller. Voila. It's like new again.

Every other year should be fine. Or sooner if the water does not bead anymore. Never wash your top with any soaps, unless the time you wash it prior to re-sealing.

I usually do it twice a year, but we get a lot of rain here in the Bay Area.
