I decided to clean up the muffler a bit.

Looks good! What did you use on the pipes?

On the muffler and the tail pipes I used the same process.
Sanding with 320, 800, and 1000 grit sandpaper.
Followed by buffing using a rotary buffer with a wool pad and buffing compound.

I saw this thread and thought it was a euphemism, as in "When I was a kid my mother caught me polishing the muffler. Man, was I embarrassed."
