rebuilding my 99 986

i just got back my 99 986 from a theft recovery.. the thief wrecked it pretty bad on the front drivers side. im in the process of rebuilding it. anyone want me to post up pics of my progress during the restoration?

blinkwatt 08-14-2007 02:36 PM

That would be awesome if you could take pics. Why would you have to repair the car yourself though, isn't your insurance taking care of it?

chpanther69 08-14-2007 02:43 PM

yea they would have.. but at the time i had a 4 day lapse in coverage. and wouldn't you know it gets stolen during those 4 days. yay for me. but yea back to the garage for me, i will take some pics and get them posted up in a little bit.

Maybe some people are not as fortunate as you to own a stable of vehicles, and he is looking foward to working on his car.

ouch man,
BUT, while youre at it, why dont you fab up some kind of a lip spoiler of sort, instead of just stock bumper...or something along those lines

When you finish this project, your gonna have the biggest grin everytime you look at the car. With a project this size, you might be able to get some free donor parts from other members. Old headlights, side markers, stock springs and shocks, bumpers, ect. are all over this site.

Have you sourced body panels yet? There are a few liquidators that strip porsche cars.

yea man that would be awesome if some guys could spare some parts for free or even a little cash. i actually got a front bumper from THENAVARO, hes a good guy. and yea ive looked for some fenders but not many people have them and if they do they want like 400 for them. not to mention how expensive the radiator and a/c condensor are.

You may want to give www.****************************************************.com an email to check on the price of new primed fenders.

How'd it get stolen? Don't know much about it, but I thought auto theft was kind of a difficult proposition with Porsches and their specialized keys. Tell us you didn't leave the key in the ignition!

chpanther69 08-15-2007 10:20 AM

nah i didnt leave the key in the ignition. i was going to sell it to this kid so i let him take it for a test drive. and well he never came back.

There's nothing like doing your own work. It would fetch more money AND get done faster if you kept it stock. Stay away from "while I'm at it..." , it will bog you down on a project this size (ask me how I know).

Just get'er done and post plenty of pics, it'll help you sell it when time comes too, as the buyer can see damage wasn't that bad.
