Not sure why you need to lubricate the latch?...

Not sure why you need to lubricate the latch? Just keep it clean. Adding grease to it just attracts dirt. Use silicone spray if you have to I guess.

I drop the hood from about a feet up, rest my full palm below the P badge, and slowly apply with force until I hear the click.

Or I spread my left & right thumb & index fingers across the bottom....
