Arrow Houston Box Drive

It's time to get all the boxster drivers in the area together to rip up some twisty roads!

Place: Spec's Liquor Parking Lot (just a landmark, not a suggestion!) 17417 Northwest Freeway at Jones Road. This lot is in the Northeast corner of the intersection, so if you're coming from the beltway or downtown Houston, watch for it before you get to Jones Road.

Time: 7 am sharp. I'll be there at 6:45 am to insure you have someone to meet when you arrive.

Date: Saturday, January 20th

Duration: We'll be done by noon at the very latest. Of course, if you can only drive for a couple of hours, you can cut loose and leave any time!

Gameplan Leave the parking lot at 7:15 am and head to Brenham on 290. From there we will head up 36 to 390 and drive that, then head down 36 to some very nice twisty roads.

Reccomendations: Please have a full tank of fuel when you arrive in the morning. This will save us time during the morning. Also, please get a good night's rest Friday night so you can drive safely and maintain good judgement... if you have a bad hangover, I'm thinking the whole group would appreciate it if you slept in and joined us another time.

I've done these drives with a couple of forum members two times last year and it was a bunch of fun. We let the drivers that want to really lead-foot it drive ahead of those that enjoy a relatively slower spirited drive, so you don't have to worry about driving too fast or too slow for the group.

If anyone would like to contact me and ask questions, feel free to do it via my cell phone or real email... please don't PM me...

Randall Neighbour 832-474-7381 or randall (at) touchusa (dot) org

Also, if you are definitely planning to be there, please reply here and sign the post with your first name so I can match screen names and voices to real names... then drop me an email with your name and cell phone number so I can keep up with you the day or two before the drive.

See you all in a couple of weeks!

It may be a good idea to secure a set or two of those short range walkie talkies, the kind that you can set to a certain channel, (ie 9-8-or 6,).....

Randall,

If I still have my car, I will see you there. Consider, too, adding
the roads in that I have sent you before.

3090 out of Navasota to 244 and then 149 from Anderson
down to Montgomery.

Perfect Box roads.

See you at lunch today...

- Mark

Great idea. Buy a couple and I'll borrow one from you! Ha!

Seriously, your kids would love them, wouldn't they?

I'm bumping this to insure everyone who might want to go knows about it.

Despite the cold weather we are experiencing tonight and tomorrow, it will be a GO until Friday night and then we'll do another weather check.

I don't drive the box in wet cold weather. Too slippery with high performance summer tires. If it's dry and not in the 30's, I'll be at the Spec's warehouse though.

Houston Boxster Run CANCELLED

Well gang, it looks like rain Saturday so this drive is cancelled. We'll reschedule when the weather is better!

Yeap . . .

Twisties and rain do not mix much

But rumor is that Randall is inviting everyone over to his place for BBQ & Beer

Now what was that address again ????

How about Ground hog's day (Feb 3rd) we can either shoot for the twisties or somewhere else, my thought to get more participants would be to have later in the day.

any thoughts on time and or place?

Sunday the 4th would work better for me, (can't do it on the 3rd) and Sunday is also better because most farmers don't work on Sundays (no hay wagons and tractors on the road). How would Sunday that next day work?

PS - we could still look for ground hogs to run over if you like.

Will, I'm going to recommend we do it BEFORE church. Say be there at 6:30 or 7 am and drive for a couple of hours. The later we wait the more Sunday drivers there are out there, and believe me, they don't drive fast!

Yes. The saturday after a big cycling event will be light traffic as far as the cycling goes. One still has to put up with the hay haulers and the tractors though... so being on the roads as the sun comes up is the best scenario. Farmers do wake up with the roosters, but the roosters start crowing at dawn and they're moving around an hour or so after sunlight.

Not a popular thing for most people to get up at 5 am and drive an hour into the countryside to drive some more, but I sure do enjoy it.
