Is it a Gen1 or Gen2 Cayman S ???

:dance:Please help me to determine if the following chassis number corresponds to a Generation 1 or Generation 2 Porsche Cayman S model.

WPO AB29878U780358

reason being thinking of buying the said vehicle though would rather have a Gen2 model as they suffered no engine issues.

Thanks

Looks like WP0AB29878U780358 is a 2008 and therefore a 987.1 with the M97 engine and ims bearing.

Are you in the USA? I know model years are different in different countries and I don't know if the vin decoders account for that. I can check a few more things to.morrow if you haven't found out by then.

The referenced vehicle is a MY08 Porsche Cayman (987.1) manufactured in Finland in 08/2007.

Originally sold in Schenectady, NY in 09/2008. I don't know how it ever made it over to the continent.

As noted, the engine is an M97 engine, with the big IMS bearing, which has a very small failure rate.

The MY09 models (987.2) sport the 9A1 engine, which doesn't incorporate an IMS bearing, but sometimes suffer from other problems, such as carbon build up and high pressure fuel pump issues.

The vehicle you are looking at is well optioned, with Sports Chrono, 19" wheels, Bi-Xenon Headlamps, and BOSE sound system.

If the car checks out after a PPI, and if the mileage is not too high, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it.

Just sayin'............

987.2 began production in 2009 as others have mentioned. 2009-2012 were the production years for this model and yes, everything 2009 and later is pretty dead nuts reliable.
