I kinda think Tool Pants' SR5 cluster would nicely complement the Box...assuming you could fit a carbon fiber trim piece around it, of course...

I just completed this retrofit this morning. Overall, things are very straightforward. I installed a Carerra 2 cluster from an 02 Carerra into my 02 Boxster S (new style cluster). Ran the Carerra oil pressure sender and wire up to the dash, wired into the harness, modified the 986 instrument surround to fit, and everything works.

Some remarks from the renntech post:

1. The factory "idiot light only" pressure sender is a 24mm fastener, not 22 as specified.
2. Rather than route the new wire underneath the shifter assembly and risk damaging it, I ran it around the shifter assembly and zip tied it onto my Eclipse iPod cable.
3. The suggestion to check for a bulb in the convertible top indicator was not needed, as both my old 986 cluster and new 996 cluster are all LED for the warning annuciators.

Everything works (correct fuel quantity, oil pressure, voltage, speedo, tach, temp). My new cluster has the OBC enabled, and I will be installing the 4 stalk switch shortly. The OBC is the new, multi color, graphical display.

If you have the time this is a very straightforward upgrade, just time consuming (especially modifying the instrument surround). I will post pics shortly.
