Talked to the service tech here in my dealership and he said they have finally got a seal that hasnt leaked out oil after being being replaced. Which is good news because its not fun to throw away 1k every year for a new rms seal replacement. Also the new engine in the 05-06 has been redesigned a little bit and should fix the rest of the problems. Hince the wider rear body, but we will find out as the years go on.
Hi,

Sorry, but he's giving you the old Party Line. First, the engine is still an M96 engine and the same dimension as all the others, no need for wider body panels. And, this area's PCNA Service Rep told me that they are still experiencing the same problems with the '05, '06 and '07s. There are many documented failures of RMS and IMS in the 987's. Fewer to date, but that's most likely because bye-and-large they have, collectively, racked up fewer miles.

The newer seals do work better, but by better they mean go a little longer before failing. Again, there are numerous failures on the later cars...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99

well that sucks ... i guess as long as people buy the car, they will continue to put in production. Doesnt seem like they want to fix the problem. Why dont they get tips from the Subaru engines, they seem to last longer!

thats just what the tech down there said ... im just going to see if i can get the "good will" deal and just pay for the warranty labor and let them pay for the engine. I am waiting to hear back from someone.. Ive called and left messages, didnt explain the problem in the message, but i also sent them an email. So i will give them a week and then try again.

Nothing against you at all there buddy but I am very sceptical of anything coming out of a dealers or their service peoples mouths. I had many bad experiences that I don't want to get into.

yeah i dont either ... id rather do the work myself, but cant do an engine replacement ... i just thought it was interesting. I was doubtful when he told me, but i wasnt about to sit there and argue with the guy working on my car! who knows what else he might mess up and say it was alreayd broke!

I sold a 911 to a guy once. Six months later I bump into him at the local dealer. He lost the engine (had 90K) on it.

Anyway, he asked my advice and I told him,

Work with the service guys, get them on your side. Be patient, be nice, always nice.

Porsched ended up eating half the cost of a new engine. They clearly did not have to do that.

Be nice, my friend, always be nice. And keep asking, keep asking!
