my poor clutch? what's wrong?

I don't know if it was always like this, I can't remember, but recently (last couple weeks) I have noticed this.

When I depress my clutch and then RELEASE my foot off of it (not gradually, just take the foot fully off) it will go up normally but it will stop traveling normally about an inch before it's at the end of its path and it will then POP out the rest of the way.

I can't tell if this is a feature designed for newbs who can't drive sticks so they can better hold the clutch in place without stalling or if something is seriously wrong.

So I am asking all you 987 guys and 986 guys that when you go out to your cars today, try this and tell me if the same thing happens.

It's really annoying when shifting gears fast. I just want to know if this is wrong.

Thanks

It sounds like a sticky release bearing or a faulty return spring but who knows. How many miles are on the clutch?

Definately not normal...

That happened to mine last summer and eventually the clutch pedal would not come up at all... ended up being a leaking clutch line. They had to replace it and some o rings between the clutch master cyl. and the Slave cyl. You should check your Brake fluid level to see if it is low. I believe the clutch shares the brake fluid reservoir. Low fluid could indicate a leak.

Best of luck.

OK so I took it in today. They called me back and told me they didn't know what I was talking about and to come in and show them.

So I tried to show them and the guy said it's supposed to be like that, and that in that particular part of its path, the clutch isn't actually engaged.

I was skeptical because I don't remember it being like this. I took him out to run through the gears and show him. Whatever.

When I came back w/ my loaner car (a camry..wtf. I think the high end models get cayennes), I went into the showroom to try the clutch on their Boxster.

It was a LITTLE like mine, except it felt very smooth and new, whereas mine seemed a little worn.

So maybe my clutch is worn?
