Cat Bypass w/Stock Exhaust?

I've been reading a lot on here about exhaust upgrades and it sounds like most aftermarket exhausts will add an annoying droning/resonance at certain speeds. One way to avoid this is to go the PSE route, but that is an expensive option.

Has anyone tried to install cat bypass pipes (i.e. Fabspeed) and run with the stock exhaust? Does it increase sound somewhat, or would this basically be a waste? I'm not looking for a performance increase, just a slightly more aggressive sound.

Thanks!

When I tried the Fabspeed bypass pipes they added a little more agressive sound, not a whole lot. I find headers and high-flow cats with the stock muffler sound pretty sweet to my ears.
