Help! P0444 - Purge Valve Circuit Open

2004 Boxster - I checked the purge valve under the manifold and the connector is solid, with no broken wires. I replaced the purge valve anyway even though it was functioning when 12V was applied to the valve. The code comes back after being cleared within a few minutes. I also checked the purge valve under the fender liner by the gas cap, and it works when voltage is applied. I also tried replacing the gas cap and fuel tank vent valve with no luck! Any ideas?

P0444 Open circuit for the EVAP cannister purge valve

Possible causes:

1. Wiring issue
2. EVAP cannister purge valve
3 DME failure

Diagnostics:
1. Check voltage supply to cannister purge valve
2. Check valve itself for function
3.Check control wiring from ECM relay to cannister purge valve
3. Replace ECM

Forgive me if this is the valve you mentioned…

….but my 2004 had the “refuse to fill fuel” thing happen twice.

Both times, I replaced the valve that is on top of the fuel tank, underneath the battery, that you access through a small panel under the battery.

That fixed it.

But it failed again.

Since COVID, the replacement part quality has plummeted, even with Porsche OEM parts.

Don’t trust that the new part is good out of the box.

I have had several bad Porsche parts.

Good luck.
