How do you time the top transmission?
I need to replace the top cables, one of them snapped. Dealer says it's $700 worth of labor, I found the part for $35/cable. He says the issue is timing the transmission.
I searched and searched, but couldn't find directions on how to complete this repair. Any help appreciated. thanks, Jeeter |
Hi,
Replacing the cable isn't too difficult, but it gets involved. Timing it is pretty easy - you'll need a ruler or gauge and a portable drill. Here's the procedure:

No worries. It pays to replace both cables because if one went, the other will follow it in short order. Before beginning, be sure to familiarize yourself with the Top's various parts and operation. Once you can visualize how it all works, then proceed, you'll avoid errors which could cause greater damage. PM me with your email addy and I'll forward an exploded view of the Top and Mechanism as a Word document. Hope this helps... Happy Motoring!... Jim'99 |
