The snorkle is added to our cars to soften the sound a little bit.... Most newer US cars have this added just to reduce sound... The improvement is minimal without, but it is a little more "woofy" without... It is a step that is taken also if you want to put the cone air filter conversion on your car also... I love it, but do read my website instructions, be careful, & DON'T SMOKE! :-) LOL
