03 Boxster S vs S2000

We have a 03 Boxster S with GHL exhaust installed. I was wondering if any of you pair up with a S2000 and what is the result? I m talking about hwy drag race. S2000 can be stock or modded. I know the Boxster S isn't a drag car but i m very curious with the result.

W/ the same driver in both cars the "S" should be faster.

The boxster S is faster 0-60 and definately faster on a highway roll than a S2000. S2000's suck on highway rolls so I hear because they don't have any torque. S200's have similar weight and way less TQ and less Hp than a 03 boxster S.

(thanks Randall for the syntax help)

Speaking of S2000s...

Me and a friend are just up in Malibu today and three of them pull up behind us plus a rented Elise. Nice enough guys, they apparently got a -great- rental deal on the Elise from Enterprise of all places that they took out of the day to see how it compared. They didn't seem too thrilled with going up against our S and/or 300zx tt there in the background...even tho we were hardly in roads that would qualify as 'highway'

An S2000 weighs less than a Boxster S. A Boxster S weighs about 3,000 lbs. S2000s are down around 2800. Regardless, at freeway speeds weight doesn't matter nearly as much as it does from a standing start.

Discounting for the moment that "racing" on the freeway is idiotic, both cars will be pretty even unless one of the drivers chooses the wrong gear.

The published curb weight of a Boxster S is 2855lb. Any time you accelerate, weight (or more accurately, mass) matters. Even at highway speeds.

Agreed on the idiotic freeway antics.

That published curb weight may be correct if the car has no fluids on board, but it's not correct otherwise. Numerous examples of 3.2L cars have been on the scales at SCCA autocrosses in stock trim and the lightest I've ever seen is just under 2900lbs - that's with no exhaust, 18lb wheels, light tires, and next to no gas.

At highway speeds weight matters, but a whole lot less than from a stop. Which is what I said.

And what does the S2000 weigh wet?

Mass effects acceleration at any starting speed. The forces of drag are more of a percentage of the total force on the car, maybe that's what you mean?

But the Japanese invented quality and the Germans haven't started...

Performance vs. quality... hmmm... Yeah, I still have no desire to get rid of my Boxster.

Yeah, Mercedes, BMW, Audi and Porsche know nothing about quality

I couldn't agree with you more! None of those brands are even close to the Japanese in terms of quality. Only BMW is even above the industry average but they still follow the likes of many Japanese and American nameplates. Out of the top 15 nameplates for best quality only 2 (BMW and Jaguar) aren't American or Japanese (that is if you call Jaguar non-American).

I like the way the Porsche feels when pushed much better than the japanese cars I have driven. I have not had the pleasure to drive the S2000 or an Elise, I have read you really need to keep the revs high to get great speed with the 2000. The Elise is supposed to get a bigger motor soon, I'm sure it will be a rockin car, however, I don't care for it's Bug Face looking front structure at all.

Im with you on that one, 1997 S500 , 2002 S500, 2006 S500, and 2007 S550 all spend more time at the Mercedes Dealer than in my garage. I'm on first name basis with everyone at Calstar Mercedes Benz.

My latest Mercedes was a rolling turd. To make matters worse, my dealership was unbelievably incompetent, not to mention crooked. Having enough **************** in my life to worry about already, I sold the car to a guy I really don't like. I feel better already.

I don't think that hwy drag race is any sort of idiotic act. Truth is at the age of 25, I have done numerous amount of track event over the past 6 years that I m still very in love with hwy drag race. It is just a different kind of fun. I know that the Boxster S isn't a drag car, but it is still fun to race with other cars in the straight.

As for Japanese vs German build quality, i have to say Japanese cars are better build in terms of reliability. Sure the German have leather here and there and it makes everything look nice, but Japanese car are so damn reliable and hard to break down. We have 2 Porsches at home and 2 Jap cars and they are just so damn reliable. I know a few friends that have Cayenne and X5 and i heard lots of electric problems that they encounter or other sort of problems. Where as my 4runner ltd just keep on running and running even at 270,000km on it. Not a single problem, no electric failure and no mechanical failure as well. I will have to say Japanese over German for build quality.
