Top won't open! I Can't even get into service mode!
I have searched for a week! Google, YouTube, and this site. I've found hundreds of top issues but none of what I'm having. Maybe I'm not searching the right keywords? Top worked fine until last week. It closed and won't move now. I have checked and rechecked fuses, relays, switches and connections. I don't think the problem is with the top, but with the hatch that opens for service mode and to stow the top. When I press the button to open the top, there's a noise in the back but nothing happens. That lid doesn't open. This morning I took the trunk carpet out to see if I could find anything but the noise is behind the wall, so without the lid opening I'm stuck as to how to find the issue. It's warming up fast here in Tennessee and I don't want to not have the top down! I have a video showing what I'm talking about if someone wants to tell me how to upload that.

So I gained access to the locking mechanism from the inside. I can see the cable twitch when I hit the open button, but it seems to be stuck or something.

At first glance I actually thought there was a duck stuck in the mechanism..
(That would be a bad thing..) |

If the hatch opens after you pop off those rods on both sides, operate the top, I am going to bet that one side is still not moving. Where that rod connects is a gearbox that push's the deck open, while also pulling the top down. If its pulsing its either the gear is stripped, the cable operating the gearbox is broken, or the electric motor that drives the cable is bad. Just my thought process, but I am sure those that have worked on these will chime in shortly. |
