X59 Pin Location Help (for engine swap)

I'm finally getting to the wiring on my ABZ swap and have three questions. Can you guys help me out?


1. Starter (pin 1)- Is this correct?
2. Ignition signal to VEMs (pin ??) What pin on the X59 connector should I use?
3 Turbo oil scavenge pump (Pin 4)- BONUS QUESTION! I have an oil scavenge pump that I'd like to have stay on 30 seconds or so after that car turns off to prevent oil from leaking into the turbos. I've heard this pin stays hot for 30 seconds after the car shuts off. Is it true? I'm guessing I would need a relay

Here's my notes on X59, mostly from the factory manual.



(1) Yes, starter.

Ignition to actuate the starter? I'd guess (2)

Pin (4) seems to be powered through the DME relay. Term 30 (hot 12v) is fed to the relay and (4) is connected to the +12v output [87] by way of weld (bundled red/blue) #26. I just checked on my '97 and it did stay powered after the car was shut off, long enough for me to walk to the trunk and check.

Note: I have not double checked or actually completed the swap, so use with caution...

I got one more for you, what about the tach signal? Worst case I can get this from the VEMs standalone. Looking at the X59 pinout I don't see a RPM signal.

It's there on (18). I looked it up when I made the table because none of my guesses at what "TN" meant made sense.

TN: Signal from ignition with inductive peaks suppressed. Used for RPM detection for control unit and speedometer

Thinking further, that TN signal at pin 18 is coming from the DME pin 80. Without the DME, you will need to pick up an RPM signal from the engine.
X59 pin 18 (Violet/Green wire) does carry the signal forward to the cluster and OBD port RPM pin.

I may have the info for the Audi side of it buried in my notes, but probably not for today. You have the 32 valve engine? Pretty sure my Bentley manual only has the 40 valve.
