ECS Tuning IPD intake kit for Boxster 986?

Has anybody installed the ECS Tuning IPD intake kit on a 986 Boxster S? It includes a new throttle body and intake pipe. I've heard everything from claims of noticeable torque and horsepower improvements to zero improvement. There must be some definitive info out there... It's a lot of money

I went with the Uniwerks set up instead of IPD for a few reasons:

1. Great customer serivce!
2. 1/2 the price of IPD
3. Carbon fiber = light and wont heat soak as much
4. Carbon fiber = sexy!
5. Sourced my own cayman/ 911 TB via ebay for under 100$ with about 10k miles
6. Tune based on reading a lot of work here not really needed... I could not justify the price essentially for a remap. I have open exhaust plus the bigger TB and custom routed intake to the vent (great IAT's with set up) and the boxster runs strong and bosch unit relearns if you will.
7. More pep, increased airflow that intake sound!

Everything I've read about intake mods, and especially if you're going the EC$ route, is to change up everything from one end to the other. Intake through exhaust... and a tune. There's lots of coverage about that mod upon these pages. You'll find something that'll swing you one way or the other.

Hi Peter,

I have the IPD kit on my Boxster S with the larger throttle body.

Personally, I did notice a difference in both the pick up in power and throttle response. It's not big of a gain to snap your neck like a twin turbo or supercharger, but it certainly was a nice difference. I paired it with a sports exhaust from FVD Brombacher. I decided not to get a tune until next season just to get a hang of things. I personally do not feel I need one, but may decide later on to try one out.

I asked myself "Was it even worth the money?" Well, some people will argue that it is a complete waste of money, but there is always a guaranteed smile when my foot is on the gas pedal, so take it for what you will.

To put it simple, my view: If you keep the standard MAF, itīs fine to go without a custom tune.

Keep it even cheaper and simpler by using a standard 996/997 plenum.
