Wheres the AMP?

Decided to change the head unit but first I need to establish if my car has an amp with fibre optic cable. Can anyone point me in the right direction where to look to see if I have an amp please. Car is a 2002 boxster

The car does already have an Alpine aftermarket single din installed.

Many thanks

M9G

If you have an amp it's mounted in the front trunk behind the spare tire, and in front of the battery.

2002 shouldn't have any fiber optics but I think some non-USA markets got stuff a year earlier than USA market or the model year designations are different. USA got MOST and fiber optics in 2003. And base radio setup had no amp, that's how my 2003 was built.

If you decide to install an aftermarket amp cai audio has a prefabbed mounting plate for alpine pdx 9 bit pricey but very clean install solution.

well the amps there but it already has an alpine head unit in there which doesn't look standard but cant see any fibre optics so is it possible it has the factory amp without fibre optics? Unless the fibre optic cable is not connected and is in the back of the dash somewhere.

Would any of the display on the dash disappear if it did have fibre optics but not connected because I have everything on the dash clocks displayed and working fine. I know this was the case in my range rover sport, by removing the standard head unit I lost the clock on the dash.

Cheers

Check your option code sticker a 490 is a hifi system in a 2000 anyway you might be able to see if your car had fiber optics from the factory that way.

Could be some one installed a new hu and powering the speakers from the internal amp or has an adaptor in place to use the factory amp.
