Key won't come out

Had to valet park my Box at the airport this week (all the lots were full!) and when I picked it up it was running and all seemed fine. Went to turn the A/C on and nothing. Thought that was curious! When I got to my house I could not remove the key from the ignition switch. Car turned off and started OK but the key would not come out. I assume this is the much referred to ignition switch issue. Would that affect the A/C? Fan operation? I hope the repair takes a while though as the dealer I dropped it off at let me take a '02 Carrera Cab as a loaner because it "needed to be driven". So I am "driving" it!

Here's the damage.

1 ea. 996-347-017-07 steer lock housing/switch 145.70
labor - 330.00

Total = 475.70

They did give me a free loaner 911 Cab 2002.
I don't think I'd trade my car for that particular 911 even up. Ran great but rough interior. Priced at 45,000. 36,000 miles on it.

The dealer makes you get the entire housing with the switch since they have changed it so the labor goes way up with it. There are plenty of instructions online so DIY it if you can.

Pelican Parts price for ignition switch: $10+ shipping
Labor in your garage: About 1 hour
Total: ~$14

Keeping my baby out of the hands of the stealership.....priceless.
