2007 Boxter S HID Conversion

... have a 2007 Boxter S ... recently converted my halogen headlights to HID ( Morimoto Elite kit- H7A, 6500k, 50W) ... main beam only .. look great, w/one small complaint ... notice a 'light' shadow in each beam center ... I'm guessing it's a result of the bulb base to top ignition wire running outside the bulb 'shadowing' the beams ... the bulb can only be inserted (keyed) with the wire facing upward, the upper side of bulb ... there was no option to select bulb with wire facing downward, below bulb ... any thoughts? comments? suggestions? Tx

I believe the 987 halogen headlights do use projectors. In that case, it's probably the bulb location that's incorrect.

HID bulbs are typically longer than halogen, meaning that you may have moved hot spot of the bulb out in front of its ideal location. Try running the headlight on a workbench and slowly pull the bulb out of its socket a bit and see if the projected light pattern gets better. If it does, you need a spacer between the bulb and socket.

Use caution: the bulb is quite hot and the voltage is high. Use appropriate personal protection safety gear.

2007 Boxter S HID Conversion

.... interesting that Morimoto now offers two bulb options:igniter wire either above or below bulb when inserted into keyed slot, but no advice as to which option to select? guess I was premature in converting ...

Just cut a notch on the other side and rotate the bulb 180 degrees.
