drilled vs. slotted rotors
 

I am at a point of having to replace the rotors/brake pads on the beast . Last year I picked up a set of front/rear EBC Red pads so I'm set there . But my question is regarding the rotors . For aggressive street driving is there a preferred style of rotor ? Drilled are what's on the car now and I have had no issues with them other than they are now worn down to below min limits . So go drilled or slotted ? I've also seen drilled AND slotted in the same rotor is that the ultimate besides ceramic ? And prices seem to be all over the place , besides our host where's a good place to purchase ? Thanks in advance . :cheers:

I would not overthink it. If aint broke don't fix it. Go with drilled if you have had no issues.

The S model rotors came drilled from the factory.

One of the often mentioned benefits to drilled rotors is to allow venting of heat/gas that builds up between the pad and the rotor to escape into the holes.

The only real downside to drilled rotors is that they can ultimately grow cracks that emanate from the drilled holes. When this happens, the rotor needs to be replaced (regardless of thickness). Lower quality rotors or extreme heat from track driving will exacerbate the situation. In normal street driving with a high quality rotor, this shouldn't be of any concern.

Slotted rotors (or dimpled) are meant to have the same venting benefits of drilled rotors without the risk of cracks. Thus, a cheaper rotor can be utilized without concern from high heat.

For regular street driving, it probably doesn't matter which style rotor you use as long as they are a decent quality.

Found a good price on all four rotors , they are Meyle brand ( made in Germany ) and are drilled . Anyone have anything to say about Meyle brand rotors ?

Tracking on Merle discs they last well on track, so spirited street driving should be easy.

I've heard nothing but good about the Meyle rotors.

Whatever you buy have them cryogenically frozen to make them last longer.

I also had a good experience with the Sebro slotted rotors when replaced the cracked (drilled OEM's)

I have been using them for a few years and I track and AX my car without any problems or issues

They are a great value

BTW, if you get them at FCP they have a lifetime free replacement warranty. Yes, they warranty wear items! FCP is a few (~$10) more than fleabay, but with the warranty, yo never have to buy rotors again
