Reprogramming keys

I've got 2 keys for my 02 boxster S, one yellow and one red. Both keys work just the same with the car (driving it) and both keys light up the little light when you press a button, but none of the buttons do anything.
Someone said it's lost its program and a dealer needs to reprogram them.
Has anyone done this? And about how much does it cost?
It seems like I read if you don't have the bar code that came with the keys you can't get it programmed. If not, what other options do I have?

Dealer or someone with a PIWIS can program them. I bought a new key for mine and they charged me $250.00 with the programming. The other key could not reprogram as I didn't have the numbers for it, I even tried to get them from Porsche and they said I had to get them from the first owner as there is nothing they can do about it. Your other option is buy a new key.
