AOS replacement fails?

New Porsche owner here. I have a 2000 Boxster 2.7 and just replaced the AOS after having some smoking during startup and periodic check engine light. All seemed to go well and I took the car out afterward and no smoke and I noticed a marked performance increase. I moved on to project number two, replacing the top, and finished that this weekend. After finishing the top I started the car and lots of smoke billowed out, more than I had before and constant with no let up. I shut the car off and decided to walk away for a bit. My question is; How likely is a failure of the new AOS that quickly? I bought the part from E-bay but it was supposed to be Porsche oem. Has anybody had a similiar experience or any advice as I go in for a second look. Any help is appreciated.

A more common issue than you might imagine. I would bet the flea bay "OEM" unit was actually aftermarket, which has very high incidents of quick failures,

Thanks for the replies, I guess the bad is on me, I have had other issues with ebay parts on other vehicles so I should have known. I dont look forward to replacing that one again. Any suggestions for a good parts vendor?

An essential tool imho to buy when you do an AOS R&R is a Digital Manometer. Check out Pyle on Amazon . They are cheap and easy to use from the driver's seat.
Just test the old unit, then the new one.If in future you suspect AOS failure a quick, easy test gives a definitive, easy to read result that you can share here.
I had what I thought was a marginal AOS, replaced it and thought it was a dud. The Manometer test indicated it was good. The real cause of the dense smoke when cold was a leaking injector that was gradually deteriorating ! If I had let it get hotter, the next stage would have been flames !
That was a good example of the value of a $20 ,dedicated diagnostic tool and some helpful tech advice from Renntech.

It is quite normal for any boxer engine to briefly smoke after a cold start. The longer the car has sat, the more smoke. So a little smoke at cold start is not a cause for concern.

The time to worry is when you get smoke after a warm start or while driving.

As the previous response said, get a manometer and measure the crank vacuum.

You might want to try the owner of the 986Forum, Pelican Parts.

This page has the Porsche OEM part: 2000 Porsche Boxster Base Convertible - Oil Circulation - Page 6

Parts you buy from a authorized Porsche dealer are warrantied for 2 years.
