top cycles

I have a 2000 Boxster that I recently bought and I have been reading posts about leaving the top up at night (in my garage) primarily for the benefit of the plastic rear window. It seems that I am causing so many cycles to the machinery, cables, window and top flexing and reflexing, motor wear and tear, etc.
Might it be better in the summer when it is warm to just leave it in the down position at night??
Also, I tried tapping the accelerator entering a turn or exit off the highway which causes a 2 gear downshift; this is way cool and different from any other tiptronic I have seen.

You're not going to wear out the top mechanism just because you put it up in the garage. Besides, you live in Boston. You're already doing less than half of what all the owners in all-year climates do.
