Battery Drain

posted this in General also but this may be the better place. 1999 Boxster, manual. Wife sometime doesn't drive the car but once a week sometimes every 2 weeks. We have been having an intermittent battery drain, sometimes dead in 3 days, sometimes fine for weeks. Just checked with a test light and the B1 fuse was the draw. B1 is ODB, Instruments Tiptronic and Traction control switch. Could this be it? I would expect some draw there but it was a bright light on the tester. TIA

Do the instrument LEDs turn off when you lock the car?

I will check to be sure but I believe so. The test was done with the battery disconnected and a test light between the neg post and cable

I had a similar problem that ended going away. When the instrument LEDs failed to extinguish the battery would last about 3 days before going flat. My initial "solution" was to put a trickle charger on the battery. I am sure the problem is the ignition switch, and I bought one that I still have to install.

The winter project is going to be long: AOS replacement, O2 sensor replacement, manual transmission fluid replacement, MAF and TB cleaning, ignition switch replacement, and I am sure several more items.

I am trying to wear my HTR Z II rear tires down so I can replace them with sticker tires. The HTR Z IIs wear quite slowly. 3 track days and two AXes and they still have decent tread.

If Santa grants my wish I will also install a duck tail spoiler. Still working on what I want for my birthday in February.

Sounds like a list! I actually have 2 ignition switches on order. Should be here in the next few days.

Open the box as soon as you get it. There was a binning mistake made and what I received was a BMW clutch switch instead. Pelican made it right, very quickly.

Well, got the new switches and new immediately i of course ordered the wrong ones. Pelican let me return the parts even though electrical parts normally are not returnable even unused/uninstalled ones. Kudos to Pelican! Got the switch installed and will be waiting to see. First 3 days no driving and she fired right up. Hope we got this one!
