OBC wires

I'm in the process of collecting all the bits to enable the OBC on my '02 S using the two dash switch hack. There's a lot of information available and implementing the hack seems straight forward enough but there are a couple details I'm not clear on.

First, what would be the optimum length for the wires connecting the dash switches to the gauge cluster connector? My research suggests that the length should be something between 20 and 34 inches but I hope you can help be more specific than that. Too short wouldn't work and too long would just be sloppy. I hope to do better than that...

It would make sense to make the ground wire somewhat shorter because it only needs to go to the grounding point and not all the way to the connecter. It seems obvious to me that the two switch hack would require both switches to be grounded but none of the information I've found mentions more than a single ground wire. Am I correct in thinking that I do need to ground both switches or am I missing something?

cheers - dj
