Soft top motor replacement

How difficult is it to replace the soft top motor and hardware? I have a 97 which was purchased with the hard top and I don't believe that the soft top has been up more than twice since new. The problem is that the top is now stuck in the down position and seems to be impossible to pull the top up manually. Where is the motor located and if I unhook from the motor will I be able to pull the top up? because I don't have access to the parts that need to be replaced.
Thank You
Regards,
Automon
