Upsolute Chip
I did use the search function, and did not find anything more recent than 2004.
A friend of mine suggested a chip from Upsolute. He has used these chips on other cars and vouches for their quality. But he's never chipped a pooch before, so cannot say how it will work for this car. I know that upgrades can get expensive and not produce a lot of gain. What they are claiming for a Boxter 2.5 is 220 hp / 263nm torque for $349.00, which seems like a reasonable price for a 10% increase in horsepower. Any thoughts? |
If these claims are true then I would do it...But companys dyno claims of power improvement are rarely accurate. I couldnt find on listed for the 2.5L.
|
The power increases are listed here, along with prices: http://inmotionusa.com/instructions/pricing_2006.htm
|
Interesting...if you can find at least one person who has the mod done on a 2.5L with an opinoin please let me know.

Tis what I was hoping to find on these boards... lol ;)

Checked ren-tech this is all I found.

Thanks, Jim.
This is one where you send in your ECU and they solder in a new chip and reprogram the ECU and return it to you. My friend has used their chips on several other cars, including his brother's car, and the power gains were very noticeable. I've just heard so many people say the Boxster engines can't be upgraded much, that I was just wondering if anyone had actually tried this chip. I am happy with my Box as it is, but a little more power is always nice. I just don't want to mess things up. ;) |
Personally I would not want anyone messing with my chip. If you don't like how the car runs, what do you do then?
|
I for one wouldn't do any "chip" that was soldered on the motherboard.
Check out Revo http://www.revotechnik.com/ Theirs is 100% ODBII Flashed and they even have a 5 hour free "test drive". |
I would stay as far away from upsolute as you can, unless you want CEL's popping all the time. I have reflashed over so many upsolute ecu flashes it is not funny. Their programming is cheap for a reason.

I know you guys do the GIAH flash but have you sone any research on the REVO stuff? Also, there seems to be varying comments on the dealer's ability to detect a flash. Any comments? I'm not considering a flash on the Box but I am for my CTT. It's hard not to when they all claim about 70HP. 520HP would be insane :D |

With that being said, most dealers couldn't care less if a car has been flashed if it had been done properly. If your software is throwing constant CEL lights, then they start to question things. Revo software is definetly better than upsolute, but I don't have a lot of faith in the technical background of their calibrators..oops i mean salesmen...oops i mean calibrators when designing the software. With that being said, their flashes do make some nice power. At what expense, time will tell. We throughly test all of our products that we sell, and if the quality is low, or the performance isn't there, we don't sell it, it is simple as that. If we wouldn't put it on one of our own cars, we sure as hell won't sell it to anyone, lol. Good luck in your search! |
Many people question the GIAC chip for any of the NA Porsche cars. The Boxster has been said to not respond well to the GIAC chip either. There are a few threads where people have dynoed the car afterwards and reported about 2hp gain after 6000rpm and 6-7hp loss between 3000-6000rpm and so on...
Whats the deal with the Boxster chip? There seems to be more negative press than anything. Quote:
Then this thread : http://986forum.com/forums/boxster-general-discussions/4512-evo-chip-2-5l.html?highlight=giac There are some varying opinions here as well. |
Thanks, guys. That is the kind of feedback I was looking for. I figure it never hurts to ask though. That is how one learns. :)
On this chip, I'll take a pass.... |
