987 Cayman Front End on 986

Searched and searched but couldn't find the answer.

Has anyone ever tried swapping the 987 Cayman front end (hood, fenders, headlights, front bumper and all hidden parts) onto a 986?

I've never seen it done, but the 997 kits are intriguing.

No one has done it because it makes no sense. The dimensions aren't the same, so you'd basically be fabricating the parts. It would be more economical to sell your 986 and buy a 987.

It does make sense when guys are asking $2,000 for a set of used headlights.

The only dimensions that need to match are the bolting locations for the fenders, headlight buckets, front bumper absorbers, etc. Many car companies carry-over the sheet metal that is "under the skin" between successive model generations, or at least the car company I work for does. I don't think it's entirely out of the realm of possibility that it bolts up.

Anyway, no one has done it. Thanks for the feed back!

By "makes no sense", I meant that the cost of doing it, added to the value of the 986, would probably be comparable to the cost of a 987.

A quick Google search leads me to believe that the parts will not swap directly over. There are aftermarket kits, though.

As an FYI - the guy who runs Nineapart is not an easy guy to like...and even harder to deal with. His reputation around the local town (his shop is just a few minutes outside my town) is brutal.
