I'm just replacing all 6 but what part number works???? And Searching everywhere, I couldn't find any real definitive answer |
I'd suggest you call Pelican and ask one of the salesman. They are VERY knowledgeable and will steer you in the right direction.

Use the newer ones with the "larger body"
they should come with the longer bolts Check out the pricing from warehouse33auto.com. If you put rennlist in the promo/code box at checkout, you get an additional 10% off Their service is 2nd to none |
This may help you although not the exact same car.Good parts number info.:

Gelbster and all, thanks for get back
This is what I was afraid of. I only checked right side coils and I didn't see any thing that would prevent using thicker body coils I need to look at Left side to see if this pipe is there on Boxster. I now remember 1 coil being blocked from easy access |
I have a 2001 "S" and yesterday I changed all (6) spark plugs. I had sufficient room to use the thicker coil packs if needed. In regard to the new coils use of a torx bolt that requires an E10 female torx socket. It's simple enough to go the a specialty hardware store and get cap bolts with a 7mm allen head

I just change my coil packs, plugs, and tubes. I can vouch for having enough clearance for the bigger coils. There are no obstructions. That 996 thread doesn't apply to us. There was one bolt that you couldn't get a ratchet on, but that was the same for old coil. I just used my socket wrapped in some rubber from a nitrile glove and a small vice grip and that did the trick.

What are the improvements to the coils since the 9x6 came out of the factory? Why thicker? Ie why not just go with the original style?

One had a crack into the body but both had cracking around the bolt hole sections So the thicker design, I think, would be less prone to that. Otherwise I don't know if there is something electronic going on with the thicker Also It appears a regular 8mm socket will work on these Torx bolts Even though the plugs I pulled looked excellent after 25000 miles, while I'm in there made sense to replace them. |
