Do I buy aftermarket short shifter or 997

Hey fellow 986 drivers

I'm starting to notice a lot of play in my shifter and it's time to be replaced, can anyone currently with a short shifter or a 997 direct me in the right spot please! Any pros or cons I should know about, thank you in advance!!!

I went the B&M route. No regrets. Love it.

I've had both the 997 and Ben006 short shifter. The 997 is a def improvement over the stock shifter. The short shifter is even better in my opinion. The short shifter has shorter and more bolt action like throws than the 997 one. The 997 feels like the stock one, but with shorter throws and tighter than stock. I'd say 997 = 15% shorter throws and short shifter = 30% shorter throws.

Hello,

sometimes i think it's very funny that people discuss the shifter blocks and short shifters without talking about what transmission and what model year they are talking about.

If you take a closer look in the 986 parts catalogue you will see why.

Regards, Markus

I just installed a 997 shifter. I kept reading how folks found it to be like a whole new car but aside from the shorter throws it feels about the same as the original to me.

Thank you all for such wonderful advice, I'm going to purchase a short shifter built by agency and sold by my friends at parts4euro.com! They have a great selection a really good prices. Here is the link! AP Billet Short Shifter for Boxster, Cayman 996 & 997 - Parts4Euro.com

Bought the cheapy $50 Chinese short shifter off Ebay. Had to take it apart to orient the shift lever the correct way (the bend was 180 degrees off.) When I had it apart I greased everything (the roller bearing had no grease.) Other than that it went in fine and made a huge difference.
