3.4 head on 3.6 block, which head gasket to use?

I put together a factory 3.6 engine block ( different pistons ) and want to use the 3.4 head gaskets and cylinder heads

I noticed that the part numbers for the 3.4 and 3.6 head gaskets are totally different.... has anyone done this before? I dont want to start mixing oil and antifreeze together....

Any help is very appreciated.

Hello,

i've never done this in person.

The bore of the 3.4 and the 3.6 litre engine seems to be the same – 96mm. But from what i've read i think they have changed the water channel flow between this two engine versions and that is why there are different gaskets.

Maybe somebody else has a more precise answer.

Regards, Markus

That's incorrect, they are nearly identical except for the placement of the uppermost bolt hole for the timing chain well. you will have to re-drill a hole closer to the chain well.
Buy a 3.6L head gasket & place it on the case & you will see.

After I had my cylinders redone by LN they recommended the 3.6L head gasket And I originally had 3.2 heads fit perfectly nothing had to be done to make them fit.

Due to your 3 chain engine, 5 chain is different.

I did drill the 3.6 engine block to bolt the uppermost bolt of the early 3.4 head.

So I should use 3.6 head gaskets? I bought a 3.6 head gasket to overlay on the 4-6 3.4 head gasket... Aside from bolt closest to the chain, it looked very similar.

You do realize the timing chains are different lengths for 3 and 5 chain?

You must use the head gasket that matches the heads, not the block.

Yes, I split the block open and replaced the timing chains.
