I accidently became a boxster fan when my daughter went to work abroad, she owed me so much when she came home I Just carried on driving her Boxster. However, about a month ago i had a water leak, RACd to my local garage and leak fixed. Last week I had a oil warning light but was on the M1 so tried to make it off, the car cut out on the sliproad and emitted a huge amount of smoke out the side vents.

The garage it was recovered to is not a specialist but has said that he has topped up the water and oil, it runs but the water is disappearing and the engine overheating. Does this sound terminal. I hear that an engine replacement in a 1999 probably isnt worth the money.

What's the consensus please? Salvageable or sell for spares

Consensus is take it to a specialist. Also, oil and coolant lights are no joke. You can and probably have done serious damage to try our engine. Find out where your coolant is leaking from. Could be as simple as a cracked overflow tank.

I just replaced a really badly cracked bleeder valve. Blew coolant all over the track ! Where is the coolant leaking from ?

First thing I'd do is bleed the cooling system. If your shop is not Porsche then they probably just topped the expansion tank in the trunk. Do a search, there are plenty of threads on the subject.
