Need advice changing a rear wheel bearing
 

Finally got around to digging into the squeak from the right rear and the bearing is, to use the correct technical term, kaput :eek:. I'd like to change it out over the weekend and could use some coaching. Anyone have advice on the easiest way to treat the patient? Thanks. Jim. :dance:

What tools do you have? See my thread about options for wheel bearing tools. I'm in that job right now.

For me getting the inner race off after pulling the hub was the hardest part. Followed by the fiddly reassembly of the parking brake shoes ..

For me, the hardest part was removing the hub... but just thinking about, it gave me back pain LOL

Seriously, it depends on the tools you have access to.

I "rented" a 5lb sledge hammer from Autozone and ended buying a bearing removal tool from HF.

But if you remove the drive shaft, you can leave the bearing carrier in place (without messing around with the parking break cable).

I just finished my last rear bearing today. Here is my trick for the ebrake. After you pull the hub and pull and reinstall the bearing, put the ebrake shoes back on first before putting the bearing retainer plate and the hub. *Much* easier ;) the two springs that hold the brake shoes flat, peek over the top and behind the wheel carrier and make sure the spring has hooked properly around the back. If it pops off bad things will happen.
