The IMS tube is surprisingly thin, the gear sprockets are thick and a different alloy from the tube. So this job is not one for a novice with their cheapo MIG welder(like me !).
If you use a set screw make very sure to use the correct grade of Loctite. Can you imagine if it loosened and fell out?
Consider shipping it to someone who has done hundreds of these ? Ask here for referrals.
